.EU domains can be registered by all companies, organizations, and individuals residing in the European Union.
A domain name is registered to the first applicant. The right to the requested domain name is granted to the applicant who submits a correct application first and, if necessary, provides valid supporting documents.
A registrable EU domain name may contain the following characters:
- the domain name must be at least 2 characters long
- it may contain Latin letters a–z, digits 0–9, and hyphens (-)
- the domain name can be up to 63 characters long
- the domain name must not begin or end with a hyphen
- in some cases, the domain name must not have a hyphen in both the third and fourth positions simultaneously
- the domain name must not consist solely of an existing (alpha-2) country code
