From this article, you will find general information about Root Server Upgrades.
Upgrades for dedicated servers
If you are interested in upgrading to a new dedicated root server, please send us a support request via the client’s area. Include the following information:
- the upgrade option you want (see the 4 options below)
- the IP address of your existing server
- the product description of the new server.
We will then let you know if the upgrade is possible and give you any additional information you might need. Please send this request in the ticket.
Once everything has been cleared with the Product Advice Team (and not before), you can order the new server. In the comments field at the end of the order form, please make sure to include the exact upgrade option (unless it is option 1) and your existing server that you want to upgrade. The ordered servers for upgrade options 2-4 are considered customized.
If you have a Storage Box with your existing server, then the Storage Box will be automatically deleted when the server is canceled. We can attach the Storage Box to your new server. If you want us to do this, please send us a support request once the new server is online and before you take the exisitng server offine (before you cancel it).
Here are 4 options for upgrading your existing server to a new one:
1. Standard upgrade in parallel operation
If you don’t need to transfer the IP address(es) of your existing server, you can order the server of your choice. The normal terms and conditions apply, and you will need to pay the current price (the monthly price plus once-off setup fee). The new server will come online with a new IP address, and you can transfer your data from the existing server to the new one.
If you no longer need the existing server, you can cancel it in the client’s area. We will charge you the monthly fee for your existing/”old” server until you cancel it. And we will charge you for the new server as soon as we deploy it to you.
2. Upgrade in parallel operation with transferred IPv4 subnet(s)
Warning: This option is not possible in every case, so make sure you have contacted us before you order the new server. (Send us a support request with the details mentioned above.)
If you don’t need to transfer the main IP or additional single IPs of your existing server, but you do want to transfer the IPv4 subnet(s), you can order the server of your choice. The normal terms and conditions apply, and you will need to pay the current price (the monthly price plus once-off setup fee). The new server will come online with a new IP address, and you can transfer your data from the existing server to the new one.
Then send us a support request. Ask us to reroute the IPv4 subnet(s) to your new server. If our team can reroute your subnet, they will do it at a set appointment time. Afterward you can transfer your Data from your existing server.
If you no longer need the existing server, you can cancel it in the client’s area. We will charge you the monthly fee for your existing/”old” server until you cancel it. And we will charge you for the new server as soon as we deploy it to you.
3. Upgrade in parallel operation with all IPs transferred from the existing server
Warning: This option is not possible in every case, so make sure you have contacted us before you order the new server. (Send us a support request with the details mentioned above.)
If this option is possible, you can order the server of your choice. The normal terms and conditions apply, and you will need to pay the current price (the monthly price plus once-off setup fee). In the comment field at the end of the order form, please make sure to include the exact upgrade option and your existing server that you want to upgrade. The new server will come online with a temporary main IP address, and you can transfer your data from the existing server to the new one.
Once you are done with the old server, send us a support request. Ask us to move your new server to the rack space of your existing server. You can make an appointment with our technicians which is possible 24/7 in most cases. They will dismantle your existing/”old” server. It will be immediately canceled. The technicians will then put your upgraded/”new” server in its place, and they will transfer the IPs.
Both servers will run in parallel until our technicians physically move of the new server to the old server’s rack space. Before the appointment for the server upgrade/move, please adjust the network configuration for your new server. To do this, you can use one of our KVM consoles. We will charge you the monthly fee for both the new and old servers until your appointment for the server upgrade/move.
If your old server has a failover feature (IP and/or subnet), it will be temporarily unavailable during the move.
4. Upgrade without parallel operation with all IPs transferred from the existing server
Warning: This option is not possible in every case, so make sure you have contacted us before you order the new server. (Send us a support request t with the details mentioned above.)
If this option is possible, you can order the server of your choice. The normal terms and conditions apply, and you will need to pay the current price (the monthly price plus once-off setup fee). In the comment field at the end of the order form, please make sure to include the exact upgrade option and your existing server that you want to upgrade.
Once the new server is ready our technicians will contact you about an appointment which is possible 24/7 in most cases. At the agreed time our technicians will dismantle your existing/”old” server. It will be immediately cancelled. The technicians will then put your upgraded/”new” server in its place, and they will transfer the IPs.
If you want us to do the server upgrade/move as soon as possible, then please write a note in the comments section when you order the new server. In the same comments section, please also write: “I confirm and accept full data loss of the old server.” . As soon as the new server is online, our technicians will send you an email with its login data. Without an appointment, this process takes the customized setup time of the newly ordered server after our team has confirmed your order.
If the old server has a failover feature (IP and/or subnet), then it will be temporarily unavailable when the upgrade occurs.
